DeepSeek Creator Mode turns a prompt into a plugin

DeepSeek Harness now has a Creator Mode: describe a tool in plain English and the AI agent writes, installs and checks it as a plugin. Demos include a timer, 3D model rendering and a video editing workbench. It is an open-source preview.

Short answer

DeepSeek has added a Creator Mode to DeepSeek Harness, its open-source AI agent app. You describe a tool in plain English, and the agent writes it as a plugin, installs it and checks that it works. It is still a preview aimed mainly at developers, so expect rough edges.

What happened

On Monday, November 2, the DeepSeek Harness team announced Creator Mode in a post on X, saying it lets people "turn ideas into plugins that you can use." Its examples included a design workspace, a sandbox game and a 3D visualizer that shows how a language model works, as Quartz reported. According to Bloomberg, DeepSeek also showed plugins that render 3D models and a video editing workbench, all built from instructions typed in everyday English.

Harness is built around one idea that DeepSeek states on its product page: "everything is a plugin." Plugins can add tools, skills and pieces of the interface. The official demo asks for a Pomodoro timer. The agent loads a plugin-writing skill, inspects the app, writes the files, installs the bundle and verifies that it runs. In the demo, the whole job took about five and a half minutes, and the result is a floating timer with Focus and Short break buttons.

DeepSeek says Harness is in public preview worldwide and open source, and that its core plugins and APIs are still changing. You can run the web version with Node.js or build it from the source code.

Why people are talking about it

Building your own add-on used to mean learning a framework first. Here the request itself is the starting point. The launch was picked up within a day by Bloomberg, Quartz, Mashable and other outlets, and the X post drew reactions from developers who are watching how fast agent tools are moving.

What it means if you use AI

  • Personal tools get easier to make. A timer, a note panel or a small helper for your own workflow can start as a sentence instead of a coding project.
  • Describe the goal clearly. You get better results when you explain what the tool should do, where it should appear and what it should not do, rather than just asking for "a plugin."
  • Treat plugins like apps. DeepSeek describes Harness as experimental preview software that can run code the model writes, so a plugin works with the same access as any program you install. Its Plugin Manager lets you disable or remove anything you added.

Quick checklist

  1. Check that you are using a recent Harness build, since this is a preview.
  2. Start with a small, harmless idea, such as a timer or a notes panel.
  3. Try it in a scratch profile before your main setup.
  4. Read what the agent installed and keep the uninstall option handy.
  5. Only install plugins from sources you trust.

If you could build one small tool for your AI just by describing it, what would it be?
