Siri AI opens to all apps in the iOS 27.3 beta

Apple's iOS 27.3 beta lets any app bring its actions into Siri AI, from checking a delivery to booking a table, plus new skills that chain several steps. It's a developer preview for now, and Siri AI is still not available on iPhone in the EU.

Short answer

Apple has opened Siri AI to every app developer. Starting with the iOS 27.3 beta released on November 3, any app can plug its own content and actions into Siri AI, so you will be able to ask Siri in your own words to check a delivery, book a table or place an order inside the apps you already use. Right now it is a developer preview; Apple says the first experiences reach customers in a few months, and Siri AI is still not available on iPhone in the EU.

What happened

In a post on its developer site, Apple said a new Developer Preview in the iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, macOS 27.3 and visionOS 27.3 betas "enables any developer to integrate their app with Siri AI." Apps connect through App Intents, the same framework that powers Shortcuts, and get access to Siri AI's personal context, onscreen awareness and natural language understanding.

Until now, third-party apps could only work with Siri AI in a smaller set of supported categories, as 9to5Mac notes. Apple is also adding "skills," which let developers teach Siri AI how to combine several actions into one request. Siri AI can now find any item in the Spotlight index, not just the ones that fit Apple's predefined types.

Apple's own apps are getting the same treatment, including Calendar, Mail, Messages, Notes, Photos, Reminders, Safari and Weather. Apple's examples include finding a coffee shop you visited last week or archiving files you haven't opened in a year.

Why people are talking about it

The announcement was covered by The Verge, 9to5Mac, MacRumors, Digital Trends and more than a dozen other outlets within hours. Apple watchers reacted quickly on X; MacStories' John Voorhees wrote, "This is a big deal folks." The reason is simple: Siri moves from a short list of built-in tasks toward an assistant that can act across any app.

What it means if you use AI

  • Less app-hopping. According to Apple's documentation, quoted by The Verge, you won't always need to name the app. If a ride-share app is showing a Live Activity, "change my ride pickup to a new address" should be enough.
  • Chained requests. Skills let one sentence trigger several steps, such as finding a saved item in one app and sending it to someone in another.
  • Still an assistant, not a person. Siri AI acts through actions each app chooses to expose. It helps to check what an app lets Siri do before relying on it for anything important.

Quick checklist

  1. Siri AI needs an Apple Intelligence-enabled device set to a supported language.
  2. Apple lists English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish for Siri AI.
  3. If you are in the EU, Siri AI is currently unavailable on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.
  4. Siri AI is not available for users under 13.
  5. Third-party integrations reach regular users in "a few months"; App Store submissions open in spring.
